I met a friend for lunch today. We had some Chinese food and gabbed like schoolgirls - it was nice.
After we ate he asked where we could get some good tea. Being one block from Chinatown, I pointed up the hill and said right there. He suggested we take a walk up there and I happily agreed - I hadn’t been to Chinatown in a long time (even though I work four blocks from it) and took the opportunity for a little San Francisco adventure and tourist-like activity, much akin to what I’ve been up to the past few months.
Walking through Chinatown I was reminded of the reason why I avoid it. Lots of people zipping around and in and out of stores and tourists who stop on street corners to look at their map. Many of the people in Chinatown are smaller than me (which is not the case in the Financial District) so I had my fix of gigantism for the day.
We made stops in a few shops - one to buy some party snappers and another to buy some pork buns, and a third to check out a display of swords, sais, mini-axes, and Wolverine-claw type things. Awesome. I felt like buying all of it to save for Halloween so I can go as Shredder. Anyone want to be Leonardo or Raphael?
As we walked, my friend commented about my blog here at PurpAnd. I had to apologize for the lack of writing, using the excuse that it just hasn’t been my focus lately. He encouraged me to keep it up and now here I am writing up this post.
As we talked further, I realized that there are some things in my life that I can control and my writing is one of them. As life continues to bring change, I know that one consistency is that I have this venue all to myself. It’s my escape… and it has the ability to give me sanity and serenity.
So I would like to thank my friend for reminding me of things that I enjoy. I’d also like to say congrats on the baby (his baby boy is due in a couple weeks) and if you’ve ever in need of a good babysitter, I can recommend someone other than me.
