Ever sit and listen to music for hours? I mean really sit and listen? I am known to do this from time to time and really should do it more often. I am a fan of music and more so than just hearing a song on the radio and saying, “oooh, I love this song.”

I was a student of music for 10 years growing up. I am no expert, but I know a little about what makes great music great, i.e. timing, note/chord mating, and dynamics and intonation. It is these things that I pay attention to when listening.

One thing I’ve noticed when listening to music is its ability to transform my mood. For example, I can put this on and I’ll become very subdued:

And I can watch this:

and I’ll be ready to get on stage with them. Check out 2:10 into the video and you’ll see what I mean. (Ever seen Muse live? OMG! In my Top 5 shows ever.)

I wonder if this mood effect is typical or if I am more easily impressed upon by music. Often, people listen to music that fits their mood and I feel I am just the opposite.

Anyone out there have similar experiences?

I’m sure this will come as no surprise to you, but I feel the exact same way. I don’t think that there is anything else in this world that can affect my mood more than music. Maybe food…. Nope, music still wins.
