Hello.

My name is Andy. This is the inaugural post of my new blog, PurpAnd. I live in San Francisco and have a regular day job. I ride the bus to and from work and eat lunch at my desk. Not very exciting, I know, but the things you see living in San Francisco make my days very entertaining.

While on the bus ride home yesterday, I crossed Van Ness, one of the larger streets in the City, and continued my gaze out the window. As we passed through the intersection, I noticed a man standing at a tree planter box facing the street. As the bus rolled past him, no more than six feet separated the two of us. We made eye contact and it was then that I realized he wasn’t just standing there, but peeing in the planter! No shame, no embarrassment, and I know he saw me see him because we locked eyes, albeit for less than a second. He was rather clean looking. He had on a windbreaker and a collared shirt. I have no idea if he was homeless, drunk, or if he just plain had to go.

This is something that I could never do. At least I don’t think I could. I mean, the most revealing pee position I could be in would at least be with my back to traffic, come on. I have never stopped to pee along side the highway, although I can understand it. But growing up I was always taught to hold it until we could find a bathroom. (This brought me to tears as a kid on a couple occasions. )

So do I salute the courage of this man, or shall I have sympathy for his obliviousness? Either way, it’s just another example of how people can surprise you and another item on my long list of ‘what I saw on the bus today.’

Today’s picture is ‘PurpAndMayo.’

I would just like to say that I look forward to sharing my musings with you and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of this as I do.
